Cloud Computing. Your Thoughts?

I just ran across this article out on Yahoo related to cloud computing and IBM and Google's plans for it.

Obviously I'm a huge Microsoft supporter.  I use Yahoo don't I.  If you don't use Yahoo, try it for awhile.  I recently decided to switch a couple weeks ago and I actually like it better than Google now.

Anyway, the article mentions they are planning to sell the use of Google Apps and Lotus Notes on this "cloud" network.  I'm just curious if anyone is using Google Apps or Lotus Notes currently?  If not would you switch from Office and Outlook if these apps where offered at a lower price through the cloud network?

Please submit you answers via comments.  I'd like to know what people think.

I use office and Outlook. I would not give them up. There is simply more books, online help, technical support, etc. for Office right now.

I have a google apps account for my domain and I have been using google docs for a long time. I use it the majority of the time when I need a text file or a spreadsheet. The only time that I don't use it is when the document needs to be stored in sharepoint or when it requires formatting that is beyond what google docs can do. I think that google apps would need to be a little more robust before I'd consider giving up MS Office entirely.

While companies look to cut cost, cloud or grid computing is one way to optimize your infrastructure. It allows companies to combine computing resources and apply those resources to the area of most need, ie, computing power, memory, storage, etc. Red Hat is about to release it's MRG OS which will allow full control of all those resources across multiple servers in the cloud.

As you look at applications that business present, companies cannot always afford to buy full suites and so this allows the pay per use model and so companies can now sell to customers they would have never been able to sell to. Amazon has been successful in this cloud services model (web services).

While you may not move away from MS office right now, the future may be different, especially as consumers and businesses look to cut costs.

    Yahoo link doesn't work..
Overall, I use ms products just because they arrived first and it is a matter of habit.
But I'm not sure MS products are the best choice today (in many respects)

Internet is referred as cloud... so cloud computing is nothing but internet computing... It is more related to SaaS i.e. Software as a service
